The Luck of the Kitty

St. Patrick’s Day will soon be here, or, as several of my less furry counterparts here at MPA like to call it, “Beer Day!” Now you may be rolling your eyes, but it is true that St. Patrick’s Day has two traditional implications:
1) Wearing of the green, and
2) Drinking a pint (or more) of Guinness, a dark beer which has woven itself in the the fabric of all things Irish!
Now you’re probably wondering why the lads here at MPA need another excuse to consume a few of their favorites from the tap? Well, the tradition is rooted in history and, as our lead technician John will point out, “History tends to repeat itself!” History tells us that having a drink at the local pub became part of the St. Paddy’s Day tradition because Lenten restrictions on alcohol consumption were lifted for a day so everyone could join together in merriment.
If you’re a bit unfamiliar with the beer scene as I certainly am, I stumbled on a fantastic resource online. “Beer 101” on BeerAdvocate.com is a great place to learn more about the beer culture and how it has evolved over the years. They even talk about how beer is made and give you some instruction if you want to try making your own! (Don’t worry – I passed a rule here at MPA that no bathtub brews will be created on the premises.)
I encourage all of you, my faithful readers, to get in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day and break out your brightest GREEN! And, if you are of age and of the desire, have a pint of Guinness!
