May 7, 2014
Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table, I’m Justin.
Diana: And, I’m Diana.
Justin: And, we’re you’re hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.
Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest.
Justin: Mother’s day is just around the corner.
Diana: Yes it is, I can’t believe it’s almost here, May 11th.
Justin: That’s true and today, it’s Wednesday where we talk about something web related and we’re going to talk about our partnership with Google here on Mother’s day.
Diana: Yes we love Google and we love our moms.
Justin: We do, so we want you to go to Google.com/mothersday
Diana: Yes, and there you’re going to find a lot of really cool things. Some of the items that you will be finding there are some inspiring videos.
Justin: Of what?
Diana: People with their moms, or things you can do for your moms
Justin: That’s good.
Diana: You can also find there, make your mom a personalized mothers day card from the Google doodle.
Justin: Google Doodle. That’s a fun time.
Diana: Google Doodle App. Yes so you know you can make your mom a card that’s even more personalized than even what you may buy at the store although I really still like going to the store to buy a card.
Justin: Oh boy, how-die do ya. You really do, I’ll tell you what. We were in the store the other day picking out mothers day cards. We were going to get graduation cards too but after the experience that I had waiting for you to pick out Mother’s day cards. I decided to move forward with my life a little.
Diana: I believe the words were, lets just wait until next week for that.
Justin: [Laugh], it’s true, women and greetings cards. It’s one of those wonderful things that guys for decades have been trying to figure out.
Diana: So imagine how much fun I would have personalizing one of these cards.
Justin: [Laugh] Absolutely, but my mom is probably listening so I will tell you mom I did approve the card you are going to get in the mail.
Diana: Yes, it’s approved.
Justin: It’s approved.
Diana: It’s made out, it’s getting ready to go in the mail.
Justin: That’s right, it is. So also at Google dot com forward slash mother’s day you can schedule a hangout with mom. Hangouts are really cool things. They are Google video conference basically and Google has its video conference service called hangouts.
Diana: Yeah, it’s kind of like Skype for people who use Skype regularly or Apple face time.
Justin: It is, and it’s free.
Diana: It’s free. And you can just do it privately or you can broadcast it publicly.
Justin: Yeah, so for those of you that your mothers live in a far distant place. You know my mother followed me when I moved to town. She moved to town.
Diana: She just came along.
Justin: Yeah she did.
Diana: [Laugh]
Justin: But your mom lives out of town and maybe that’s something you could do as a hangout and she’s, your mom’s tech savvy too.
Diana: She is, yeah I mean you do have to have G-mail.
Justin: Right, that’s true. Alright and then you can also send a tech care package easily select a sampling of videos to help mom do more online.
Diana: Ah cool.
Justin: Ah yes because some moms need some help doing things online. You know mine’s pretty savvy she got her Iphone, she’s got it all together now. Pretty impressed and then also you can find local flowers to send.
Diana: And get some other last minute gift ideas too if you are a little behind on picking that up so.
Justin: Yeah, absolutely, Yeah I think that’s a really nice thing so mother’s day is one of those things that everyone, most everyone thinks about and celebrates and you know one of those nice things that you can do with your mom that Google can help you out with is Google shopping as some last minute gift ideas but I really want to mention Google shopping. There’s an actual tab in it within the Google search you can shop and it will give you, probably the coolest thing for me as a guy is price comparisons. You just type in what you want and then it will actually find every website that has it available and their price comparisons. So guys its really easy to buy mom a gift that way.
Diana: Yeah, really cool.
Justin: Don’t have to go to all these different websites for stores or anything. Until next time.
Diana: Take care.
