Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Hi, Justin.

Justin: Hello, Diana.

Diana: It is-

Justin: It is Thursday. Oh, we just had one of those awkward moments where on t.v. if they do that, they look really dumb. Luckily, we don’t look any way because we’re on the radio.

Diana: That’s right.

Justin: I love it.

Diana: You don’t have to look at our faces today.

Justin: Absolutely. I am quite attractive, though, for future reference.

Diana: Well, I think so.

Justin: Oh, thank you. That’s very sweet. Of course, you’re the beautiful one.

Diana: Thank you, thank you.

Justin: It’s like beauty and the beast here on Tech Table.

Diana: Well, I don’t know about that.

Justin: I don’t think so. Anyway, today it’s Theme Thursday, and we’re going to talk about more holiday fun.

Diana: Right. Because ‘tis the season for holiday fun, is it not?

Justin: That’s right. Well, don’t we have normal year fun?

Diana: Well, I have fun every day.

Justin: I know, me too. This is, though, a neat thing, get the kids involved. It’s gifts kids can make.

Diana: Or just people like me, who are not necessarily very crafty.

Justin: You don’t think you’re crafty?

Diana: Oh, I have my moments.

Justin: I think you’re pretty crafty, I do.

Diana: Thank you.

Justin: Absolutely. So, you’re going to tell everyone today about cookie cutter candles. That sounds like a messy thing.

Diana: Yeah, here’s a couple things. We’ll start with cookie cutter candles, and here’s what you need: cookie cutters, bet you didn’t see that coming. But you can get whatever shape you want. Just make sure that they’re shapes that you think can stand up, okay? So, something of substance, or something substantial, I should say.

Justin: Like a star? Like a thick star?

Diana: A star, like a thick star would probably work.

Justin: Okay. I’m just thinking about the cookie cutters that your mom used to use for sugar cookies. That sort of thing?

Diana: Yeah, yeah. That should work, and then honeycomb wax sheets in various colors.

Justin: I don’t know. I don’t have any idea what that is.

Diana: Well, you can get them at craft stores or here’s a website you can go to candlewic.com. That’s candlewic, just W-I-C.com, and an 8×16-inch sheet will make one or two candles. So, depending on how many candles you want to make.

Justin: Oh, I get it, okay.

Diana: Yeah, it’s a sheet of honeycomb wax.

Justin: Honeycomb wax, I got you.

Diana: Yeah, because you need wax for candles.

Justin: Well, I know you do. I didn’t know how it came. I thought maybe you had to go squeeze a bee. No? I thought that’s maybe what you had to do.

Diana: You guys are getting the comedian Justin today.

Justin: I’m having a good time! Our engineer’s cracking up over there.

Diana: Okay, so we’ve gone through, you need the cookie cutters with shapes that can stand up.

Justin: Okay.

Diana: So, not a circle.

Justin: Yeah.

Diana: And then the honeycomb wax sheets. Also, wicks and scissors, okay? So, you can get all those things at a craft store. So, how you make it: for each candle, use a cookie cutter to make ten identical shapes from the wax sheets. So then, divide the shapes into two stacks of five. You following?

Justin: I got you.

Diana: Okay, now, sandwich a wick between the two stacks, starting at the bottom and extending beyond the top by at least an inch. That’s really important, got to extend it up there.

Justin: Sure.

Diana: Now, press the wax sheets together gently, and if they don’t stick together, take the wax layers apart. Use a hairdryer to gently warm each one before re-stacking them. It kind of melts them a little bit, gets a little gooier.

Justin: Sure.

Diana: So then, add the wick as instructed above. So then, trim the wick to about a half inch, stand your candle up, shaping the base as needed to make it sit securely, and you’ve got a candle.

Justin: It’s exciting. You know, I also got a candle by going to the Yankee Candle store while we were talking, and I picked up a candle.

Diana: That works, too. That works, too. So, that’s cookie cutter candles. If you want instructions for that, we can send them to you. Just email us at questions@askmpa.com and we’ll send that right out to you.

Justin: That’s great. So, have some fun with your kids, make some crafts while dad’s out buying presents. How about that? That’d be fun.

Diana: Sure!

Justin: Alright. Well, until next time.

Diana: Take care.

Justin: Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa, and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at AskMPA.com.

Diana: If you have questions or comments, please send them to questions@askmpa.com. That’s questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: And thanks for listening.
