December 24, 2013
Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin.
Diana: And I’m Diana.
Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.
Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Hello, Justin.
Justin: Fa, la, la, la, la! It’s the day before Christmas.
Diana: Christmas Eve.
Justin: That’s right, it’s Christmas Eve day.
Diana: Day, Eve day, right.
Justin: Right. That used to confuse me as a kid.
Diana: It’s true.
Justin: Like, it’s just Christmas Eve in general.
Diana: Yeah.
Justin: Leave it at that.
Diana: I think we can leave it at that.
Justin: Alright, we will. I mean, when does eve start, I guess is a good question.
Diana: Might be a good question.
Justin: Does eve start at like 6:00 p.m.?
Diana: I don’t know. Probably one of our listeners could look it up for us and let us know.
Justin: Right, exactly. Well, it is Christmas Eve here at the Tech Table, and it’s time to track Santa Claus.
Diana: This is very important.
Justin: And when I was a kid, you know, it was always the weatherman tracked Santa Claus.
Diana: Told us where he was, around the whole world.
Justin: Exactly right. He was flying over Poland or something at that time. Yeah, very interesting. There are a couple websites that you can go to to find Santa Claus.
Diana: Yes.
Justin: And track him, keep an eye on him. Now, of course, when he gets close to your house, you’re going to have to make sure you’re asleep. Otherwise he will-
Diana: Otherwise he will not come.
Justin: That’s right. Well, we have noradsanta.org, and it’s an interesting website. It’s actually been developed by the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Diana: Yes.
Justin: Sounds very formal, doesn’t it?
Diana: Very formal.
Justin: That’s what I call my office. Just kidding. Okay, so yeah, and it’s interesting because this website, and it’s noradsanta, that’s N-O-R-A-D Santa.
Diana: .org
Justin: .org. They have nifty little games to play and music.
Diana: Right. Up until the time for Santa to take off.
Justin: Exactly.
Diana: You can play all these games, watch videos, listen to music.
Justin: Yeah, they actually archive all the games, too, so you can go back and see all the games that they’ve had all through December.
Diana: Right, because each day they actually have a new game in December.
Justin: Yeah, it’s interesting. Yeah, and the site is pretty cool. You can literally check and see, you know, there’s a fighter jet escort even, I guess, for Santa’s sleigh.
Diana: Right, since it’s done by NORAD, North American Aerospace Defense Command.
Justin: Yes, and all the music is performed by the Air Force Academy Band.
Diana: Wow.
Justin: Yeah, really interesting. Fighter jets escorting Santa’s sleigh.
Diana: So then, if you want to go kind of a different direction.
Justin: How much of my tax dollars are, I’m sorry, how much of my tax dollars are going to escort Santa Claus? I’m a little concerned.
Diana: I think Santa Claus is important enough to have some of those tax dollars.
Justin: Oh, alright, I guess you’re probably right. You were saying, sorry.
Diana: Yes. Well, there’s another way to track Santa. Google, of course, has their way, and it’s google.com/santatracker. You can go there and it uses Google Maps. Of course, Google Maps are really, really specific.
Justin: Right. At this point, we could, like, pinpoint Santa’s face, practically, on his sleigh.
Diana: Yes. So, they use Google Map to track Santa’s voyage around the entire earth on Christmas Eve. So, there are lots of things you can do there, also: games, fun animations, and short videos of Santa and his crew.
Justin: Is there some behind the scenes sort of stuff there?
Diana: I don’t know. I haven’t checked it out too much.
Justin: You haven’t checked it out?
Diana: I’ve always used NORAD.
Justin: Oh, I know. That’s what I always used, too, because I figured the government had it together.
Diana: But I stumbled upon the Google one recently so, yeah.
Justin: That’s pretty cool. So, that’s noradsanta.org or google.com/santatracker.
Diana: That’s right.
Justin: Yeah, so keep an eye on Santa today and make sure, you know, you’re fast asleep because he won’t leave you anything if you’re not.
Diana: And make sure you tune in tomorrow, Christmas Day. We’ll be chatting about our favorite Christmas memories and what Christmas means to us.
Justin: Absolutely. Until next time.
Diana: Take care.
