OK ENOUGH! Iowa State Fair, you’ve about made a mockery of my favorite and most precious food group – The CORNDOG. I mean, I looked past the pork chop on a stick, which is obviously just a pork chop still on the bone. I even looked past the new funnel cake sticks. (In fact I’ve pre-ordered a kitty’s dozen.) But now you and your money-hungry vendors have gone a bit too far. It’s ridiculous, it’s out of control, some would […]

Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin. Diana: And I’m Diana. Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech. Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Justin: Thursday, Diana. Diana: Yeah, it is. Justin: Yeah, it is, and we’re going to talk about a theme today. You know, recently we were talking about finding some new things to read and some websites on places to find new books, new titles […]

Are you one of the million-billion* laptop owners in the world? Then you will likely find these tips for proper care of laptop batteries (or Lithium ion batteries in general) helpful. If your laptop is going to be plugged into AC power for an extended period of time and the battery is charged, remove the battery for longer battery life. Always use your laptop on a hard surface. This is essential for proper cooling. Batteries do not like to be hot! You would […]

Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin. Diana: And I’m Diana. Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech. Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Diana: Well hello there Justin, it is Wednesday. Justin: Hello Diana. If I sound a little different today my allergies are driving me crazy, which is odd, I don’t usually have midsummer allergies. Diana: I just feel like a lot of people are having […]

The further I dig into this, the more tutorials I find. Some have more information than others, and others are better organized, but they all seem to solve different pieces of my particular puzzle. One that seems to come particularly close to our MEAN stack endeavor is the helpfully titled guide from Christopher Buecheler. He doesn’t mention AngularJS and uses Jade instead, which actually seems to be a “natural” component included with Express, but we can figure out the difference later. If […]

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Diana: Well hello there, Justin. It is Tuesday. Justin: Oh my goodness, yeah, it’s Tuesday alright. Diana: [LAUGHS] Justin: And before we went on the air here, we were having a beauty consultation between you and our engineer, Noel. Diana: Well, that’s just the […]

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Diana: Well hello, and we are just back from a weekend. Justin: We are, and it’s Mail Monday here at the Tech Table, where we look into our inbox. What do you see in our inbox, Diana? Diana: Well, we get questions. We get […]

As I’ve said before, I’m still a novice in the programming arena. In our quest to understand Node.js and the tools surrounding it, we’ve come to the “EA” in the MEAN stack. Express and AngularJS seemed, insofar as I could tell from a mere surface-level investigation, really simple to use and impossible to explain. Everywhere I looked, tutorials told me how to install Express and use it to set up simple static servers, but there was little if any explanation of […]

Life is like a MEAN stack… of pancakes. That really makes no sense at all, but I have successfully made myself hungry for pancakes. In the meantime (no pun intended), I should try to get a firmer grasp of our new friend, the MEAN stack. I know we already covered downloading and installing Node, but I kept finding myself wrestling with the terminology as I tried to proceed with something more useful than Hello World. I’m taking a half step backward […]

We have the pleasure of working with a great intern this Summer. His name is Nate, and we think he’s pretty great. :) Read on for more about his special project. 1) Tell us a little about yourself. Background, education, personal interest gems… My name is Nate Aeilts. I was born near Chicago and I’ve lived in central Illinois, upstate New York, southern Ohio, southeast Kentucky, and now southern Iowa. I’ve got one degree from Alice Lloyd College (BA in English with Math […]
