Moire Talks Social
February 21, 2014
Heather writes:“Moire, what social media platform(s) should I be using? There are so many and I’m overwhelmed!”
Moiré responds:
Heather, my dear, I’m sure your head is spinning in this constantly evolving world of social media, but have no fear. Moiré is here to guide you. There are many platforms and almost all of them have their own ‘piece of relevant pie’. I believe it depends most on what you want to accomplish with your time spent in social media. Here are some basic examples:
If you want to share photos with family and friends – TRY INSTAGRAM. It’s an easy-to-use platform where you make an account and share photos with your followers. You can also follow others to see their photos. It’s basically social media’s answer to scrapbooking! And who doesn’t love scrapbooking?! Oy.
If you want to let people know what is happening in your life, potentially minute-by-minute – TRY TWITTER. Twitter lets you set up an account very quickly, complete with a fun little bio (which was very hard for me, as I need paragraphs to describe myself, you know). You can then follow people or companies and they will follow you back, if you’re lucky. You can tweet photos or short statements about what is going on. Such interesting things as “Today my coffee is weak” often appear on Twitter.
Lastly, if you want to roll these two into one you should be using – FACEBOOK. Facebook allows you to set up an account and share ‘what you are thinking’ and also create photo albums, etc. The pros say not to use it like Twitter, for minute-by-minute updates, and I would agree.
The biggest thing to remember, I believe, is not to let your life get consumed by social media. They say the average person checks their mobile device (cell phone) every 6 minutes. Let’s slow down a bit and take time to love the kitties in your life!
