Justin: Welcome to to MPA’s Tech Table. I’m Justin…

Diana: …and I’m Diana…

Justin: … and we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise, it’ll be easy to digest.

Justin: It’s Wednesday.

Diana: The middle of the week!

Justin: That’s right. If we had a camel. If we had a camel right on here. He would be saying it’s hump day. What is it, what day is it?

Diana: That’s right. Oh, that commercial.

Justin: But, it is Wednesday, the middle of the week, and here at the Tech Table, we always talk about web-related topics on Wednesday, so what do we have, Diana?

Diana: Well, I think we’re going to talk about podcasts today.

Justin: Right, this is not something I’m particularly into.

Diana: I’ve done a few podcasts, listened to, and I’ve even recorded a few.

Justin: Ooh, I didn’t even know that. So, what is a podcast?

Diana: So, basically, you listen to a podcast. It’s almost like a short-form radio show but it’s usually on one topic. Oftentimes they are recurring, so you can access the same ones. They’re uploaded weekly at the same time. You don’t have to listen to them at a particular time because they accessible at any time after, of course, they’ve posted. You just download them or stream them.

Justin: Right, so like, a radio program you can listen to anytime. It’s like, what is it, it’s like TiVo or something like that for your listening pleasure?

Diana: Yeah. You can subscribe, and they’ll notify you when a new one is up. And most of them are free.

Justin: Very interesting. Very interesting. How do you find podcasts?

Diana: Well, you can automatically download them or you can subscribe for free, just kind of even go to the internet and do some searching for podcasts.

Justin: You can use iTunes to look for podcasts, which is interesting.

Diana: A lot of organizations and instututions, like colleges or even radio stations and nonprofits, they’ll actually have podcasts available.

Justin: Dave Ramsey has his podcast that a lot of people listen to. Very popular.

Diana: And you can just get an app on your smartphone, too.

Justin: Right, okay, well that sounds very cool. And they’re usually free. Are they always free?

Diana: I would not say always. I always hesitate to use ‘always’.

Justin: Funny, oh, very funny. Very funny. That’s like saying ‘probably maybe’, I’m sure, probably maybe I’m sure that’s right. Interesting, there is a lot of podcasts you might enjoy. Lot of podcasts for men. There’s a football program from the NFL, nfl.com.

Diana: It’s football season so that’s apropos.

Justin: Exactly. I’m not really a big football guy myself.

Diana: I like to play.

Justin: I’m a baseball guy, but anyway. So there’s one from nfl.com that’s really interesting and then HBR Ideacast from Harvard Business Review, that’s a really good thing. I wouldn’t say that’s just for men. Who wrote this? My goodness. I’m looking at my notes. This says it’s for men, but I think that the Harvard Business Review, that easily could be for women, too. Modern Manners Guy. You pointed to that on my list here.

Diana: That sounds like it’s for men.

Justin: You think men need modern manners training?

Diana: Well, some.

Justin: Interesting. How nice to hear it.

Diana: Not every guy’s going to look at this, but some, sure.

Justin: Oh, well, excellent. This is not going to be on my Friday Favorites list. So, then there’s Stuff You Missed in History Class and then a very favorite of a lot of people is TED Talks.

Diana: And they do a video, too.

Justin: It’s a fantastic resource for little short snippets of information on new ideas about the world we live in.

Diana: It can be long snippets of information.

Justin: It’s really interesting stuff, so you know, any of those that you want to visit are really great. So, until next time. Tech Table is brought to you by MPA of Bloomfield, Iowa and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at askmpa.com.

Diana: If you have questions or comments, please send them to questions@askmpa.com. That’s questions@askmpa.com.

Justin: And thanks for listening!
