Justin: Welcome to MPA’s TechTable. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana.

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up a heaping spoonful of all things tech.

Diana: We promise: it’ll be easy to digest. Thursday, Thursday, Thursday.

Justin: You are excited about this. Or something’s up.

Diana: It’s theme Thursday.

Justin: That’s right. It’s theme Thursday.

Diana: What are we talking about?

Justin: Today we’re talking about technology and how that can make being a sports fan more fun than ever. I think that was a football reference that you were doing there.

Diana: It was.

Justin: It’s pretty exciting about what technology has done for sports, sports of all kinds. Football, for one.  Maybe you can talk a little bit about that Diana; you’re kind of a football fan.

Diana: I’m pretty good at football.

Justin: I know. You have a mean arm.

Diana: I actually hold the middle school record, where I attended middle school, for longest spiral thrown by a girl.

Justin: Wow. That’s pretty impressive. A record that still stands today.

Diana: Well, the school’s closed but I think it would.

Justin: That’s great. That’s great. So basically technology has made being a sports fan easier than ever. You can stay up-to-date with your favorite players, favorite teams. There are apps out there.

Diana: It used to be you could only be connected watching the television or listening to the radio or you’d have to rush to your computer and look up the scores.

Justin: So now you can listen to the radio of course, while you’re watching the sports on a…

Diana: You can do all those things at one time.

Justin: You can. You can be surfing on the app for your other team. It’s like mega sports now. One of things you can do is Yahoo Sports which has scores, play by play action and of course, the fantasy teams that everyone gets so excited about.

Diana: Yahoo Sports is pretty easy to get there. You just go to Yahoo.com and on their homepage they have all sorts of different links to their…if you’re looking for webmail or news or entertainment and there’s a sports link for sure.

Justin: Absolutely I’ve heard that ESPN actually has a great app that they developed that will show you the players, the stats and keep you up-to-date on play by plays and all that stuff as well.

Diana: Really? Oh, cool.

Justin: …and give you all the scores. ESPN is really staying on the cutting edge too.  Of course, that’s their business. Also, one interesting thing, NASCAR, I’m sure we have some NASCAR fans out there. Yep. Our engineer, she’s raising her hand. Oh. She’s getting really excited.  She loves NASCAR. NASCAR has done a really cool thing with HP where they have a media engagement center, a fan engagement center, where HP has used all their technology and brought together all of the social media, all the tweets and all the Facebook posts, fans are sharing and then they’ve combined it with the real-time NASCAR events. They have much better data to give their fans back what they want because they use it all as analytics. But the fans now could engage with NASCAR in another whole way. And that’s what’s really cool: you actually can engage as a fan with the sport that you’re interested in.

Diana: So you’re no longer just a spectator?

Justin: That’s right. And that’s really what social media is all about. One other thing is TuneIn.com which lets you listen to sports on radio stations around the world. That can be really cool too. If you want to hear soccer or something like that that’s happening in another country. It’s pretty cool. There’s a lot of stuff that you can do and we could go on for a long time but we are out of time for today. So until next time.

Diana: Take care.

Justin: TechTable is brought to you by of MPA Bloomfield, Iowa and God’s Country Radio. You can visit us online at askMPA.com
