Justin: Welcome to MPA’s Tech table. I’m Justin.

Diana: And I’m Diana

Justin: And we’re your hosts. We’ll be serving up heaping spoonful of all things Tech.

Diana: We promise it’ll be easy to digest. Hello Justin.

Justin: Hello Diana, it’s Tuesday.

Diana: That’s right Tuesday, Tuesday.

Justin: You know Tuesday on the Tech Table we talk about well tech.

Diana: [Laugh]

Justin: That seems obvious doesn’t it. So today we’re going to talk about your cell phone reception.

Diana: Yes, yes.

Justin: Is that a problem for you?

Diana: Well, sometimes it is and I know a lot of other people it’s a problem for them everyday.

Justin: Really, see I just remember how we used to have cell phones with antennas on them that we used to pull.

Diana: Pull it out.

Justin: To give you a little more reception.

Diana: And then they made them just short antennae that you couldn’t pull out but they were still there.

Justin: Yeah, it was pretty exciting.

Diana: And now they’re not there at all.

Justin: It’s true. It’s true. I guess we’re a little spoiled because we think we should have perfect cell phone reception everywhere.

Diana: Well, at least in your home. I think people would love to have their cell phone reception.

Justin: Is that because you don’t have a home phone line.

Diana: Yeah, a lot of people don’t have a home phone line.

Justin: Interesting, so yeah, you need good cell phone reception inside your home. Now if you live out in the middle of the boondocks you know like we have a lot of those boondocks ya know and there is no way to get good cell phone reception
without getting a cell phone boost.

Diana: Well, I was just at my brothers recently and he lives in rural South East Iowa and I had a difficult time getting signal, I had to go to a certain part of the house. By the window, you know get down on one knee.

Justin: Wow.

Diana: And pray about it.

Justin: That’s something. So you get the cell phone booster and you know it’s interesting. It’s pretty simple the way that it works. There are three main pieces. The antennae. The adjustment box and the booster so this is something that you have to have installed.

Diana: Yes, some people might want to tackle this themselves and that’s cool but we warn you, there is some installation process and some possibly climbing up on the high parts of your house.

Justin: Basically climbing up on the roof. I always leave that to the people that know better than I. ??? climb on a roof because you know in danger most times walking on the sidewalk, I might fall over.

Diana: True, so you better stay off your roof.

Justin: Yeah, just going up and down the stairs frankly is.

Diana: So basically what you do. You gotta find where the strongest cellular signal is at your house and also which direction it’s coming from so probably that’s where you’re getting up on the roof testing out. Finding out. So then that’s just having your phone with you. You know looking for how many bars you’ve got.

Justin: And don’t look at your phone too much if you’re walking around on your roof. Don’t be looking down at your phone.

Diana: Right, this is why we suggesting you get a professional to help you.

Justin: Always, right, I really think so.

Diana: So then you mount the antennae on the roof and then pointing it toward a cell signal. Okay, all of this makes sense and then you mount the gain adjustment box inside where you have the most centrally located part of the house. So it’s kind of like, to find, to get that signal and adjust it. Then lastly, mount the booster in the rafters of your attic. It could be on your ceiling if you don’t have accessibility to your attic area.

Justin: Sure

Diana: So yeah, there’s the three components then.

Justin: And then you run the cable. It’s a co-axle cable and you run it to the antennae then connect it to the adjustment box and back to the booster and you power everything up and fine tune it a little bit for the maximum signal and there you go.

Diana: And again this isn’t something that everyone feels comfortable doing themselves.

Justin: It sounds like something that it would be kind of a fun project if you’re into that sort of thing.

Diana: Sure, sure.

Justin: Yeah, so that’s how to get a better cell phone reception in your house

Diana: And we do have these kits at MPA.

Justin: Yeah we do.

Diana: And the ability to install them.

Justin: That’s true, we can do that for you at MPA if you give us a call. Excellent. Very cool Diana. Until next time.

Diana: Take care
